Teaching Philosophy

My goal is for students to not only learn their instrument, but for them to gain an enthusiastic appreciation and love of music that lasts a lifetime.

The teaching style you will find in this studio is one of a positive and nurturing influence, not just in a student's music studies but also in their life. I love this great quote by master teacher Frances Clark, and follow this in my own teaching: “My primary goal as a piano teacher is to create a climate in which my students can experience continual musical, intellectual, and emotional growth, and to become increasingly dispensable to them in the process. Everything I do as a teacher, and every other teaching goal I have, relates directly to the first, most basic objective – to help my students grow by and for themselves.” I teach and care for each of my students in a way that I would want my own children to be treated.

Each student is an individual, with different learning styles and personalities. Curriculum is customized for each student and include instruction on theory, technique, music history, musical styles and repertoire, with a goal of progressing students towards musical independence while building a love, understanding and appreciation for music.

I practice and perform regularly to maintain my own proficiency. I also attend teacher workshops, conventions and maintain membership in many industry organizations. I am committed to my own ongoing education so that I am aware of the lastest publications, methodologies and advancements in my field.
